Philip Brazier and friends trek to Everest Base Camp
Brazier Interiors Chairman, Philip Brazier, heads for Nepal in October with a group of friends for the Classic Trek through Sherpa Villages upto Everest Base Camp.
The party of 10 will fly to Delhi and then onto Kathmandu. The trek starts from Lukla which, at over 8700 feet, is more the height of the top of a ski mountain, after an unforgettable short flight from Kathmandu.
The trek is full of incredible mountain views and concentrates on the main Khumbu valley with plenty of time for acclimatisation, time to ascend Kala Pattar for tremendous views of Everest and time to walk over the amazing Khumbu glacier to Everest Base Camp which is at a height of over 18,300 feet.
The approach to Everest Base Camp from Nepal is one of the classic treks in the world. The mountain scenery is breathtaking and the Buddhist Sherpa people are incredibly friendly. Along the trails colourful prayer flags and Buddhist monuments are seen against a backdrop of glorious Himalayan Mountains.
The Group have been training together for over a year and feel pretty well prepared for the challenge ahead. The only real unknown is whether anyone will be affected by altitude sickness. Although plenty of time is allocated for acclimatisation on the 14 day trek, some people can suffer and it is not necessarily related to physical fitness.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge and I can’t wait to experience my first visit to Nepal” says Philip. “As well as enjoy the views once we reach Base Camp, I have two things I need to do whilst there. My old school wants photographs featuring its ex students holding a card displaying the school crest in a location anywhere in the world that is unusual, exotic, funny or just plain different. I think Everest Base Camp qualifies, don’t you? I have also been asked by the manufacturer of a new make of trekking sock to have a photo taken wearing their new socks at Base Camp.”
